A native of Rhode Island, James served in the Peace Corps before returning home to pursue a second degree in Fine Art.  Graduating Magna Cum Laude from CCAC, now CCA (San Francisco) his focus embraced furniture design and sculpture.

James channels his creative passion with a sincere reverence for the natural world. The result is witnessed as an unmistakable signature through biomorphic sculpture, fluid lighting forms and bespoke botanical revalations.

In his making process, James examines and dissects patterns and forms as they occur in nature, the effect of texture, both tactile and visual as well as light as it travels through time, space and material.  Each of James’ works beckon an experience and is reminiscent of familiar and distant memories.

His past works include a series of lighting forms made of silicone and of porcelain, several works of commission on display at Disney, some of which you can see in the archive section of this site.

About O.M. Studio: OM Studio was defined during the lockdown of 2020. Artists Krislyn Komarov and James Benn, armed with good coffee, music and masks, met regularly (for art therapy) during the initial year of the pandemic. With shops and resource chains stalled, the duo pulled from their coveted reserves of materials and tools in order to create. As were the times, the work manifested from this period is brutalist in nature with play of gypsum, marble powder, steel, wax, rope, linen and found materials. These works became the experimental foundation of the first and ongoing colaborative series of work at OM Studio.

The studio developed into a permanent division of the creative company Organized Matter with Krislyn and James as the Studio’s collaborative artistic duo. You can see their current and past exhibitions HERE.
